the rather bizarre effect of this (no idea why) is that as I move my eye round the paint texture the background appears to flicker

far out!! emoticon

Thanks Simon, wasn't sure about this one ,but funny you should mention the unusual effect,because if I flick my eye around it fast, the appartments seem to move, it must be some sort of optical illusion caused by the "in focus" and "out of focus" sides of the image.

I like the idea/message ?= new becomes old but for me it is too much mid-tone.

And once again I find myself thinking "why is it so much easier to see how I think someone else's picture could be enhanced, than it is with my own??"

Works really well. I love the rather liquid tones that you have achieved with the out of focus area, I have noticed them in your work before.
