Does high dpi make any difference 360/720

reading an article recently called 'ultra prints, when the author claims his 720 dpi print and proprietary software(or workflow-not sure) create NOTICEABLY better prints

has anyone else tried this? Ian, Martin?

]MING THING ULTRAPRINTS

Re: Does high dpi make any difference 360/720

From tests I have done, I see no difference at all and the reason is because as far as I am aware, the driver will interpolate 720 down to 360.

ahh I see - so presumably the technique he is hinting at, relates to preventing the printer from interpolating back down?

Can you see a way round it Ian, to force it to print at 720?

In theory, you should see no benefit sending more than 360 ppi to an Epson printer through the Epson driver. 360 ppi is the 'native' resolution of the printer.

With RIPs that bypass Epson's screening such as the Colorbyte, I dont suspect you will see any difference at resolutions higher than 360 other than the image taking longer to print. ImagePrint downsamples the incoming data to 360 ppi if it's higher than that.

Re: Does high dpi make any difference 360/720

Considering at say a viewing distance of 12 to 15 inches the human eye can only resolve around 280dpi I don't see any advantage in a dpi higher than 300 or 360 dpi.

Simon,
When judging one thing against another you would have to place them side by side and see for yourself, if that is possible, because this is how marketing works, seeds are planted in your head and before you know where you are you cannot live without whatever they are selling.... emoticon

I understand Simon, we are all striving for perfection so at the pointy end that last one or two percent can make a difference,

If you could see a difference would you surrender ImagePrint from your workflow ?
