I appreciate every camera sensor may be different but my camera Nikon D3s is getting long in the tooth now as far as technology goes, yes its full frame but its over 5 years old technology.

I maybe wrong but if you use the histogram in Live View I am pretty sure this is as close as your going to get to the actual Raw Capture

it shows a jpg apparently and in adobe RGB

I think this is camera specific. On my Nikon D3s, I can activate Live View and then choose Live Histogram which show a Live preview on the fly and distributes the tones accordingly.

I always use the black and White mode so I see the scene in shades of grey.

Has anyone checked their cameras Meter against a Hand held incidence Meter reading, they seem to ba Almost the same.

When I calibrated my D3s with the Sekonic L-758 I had 2/3 stop difference

yeah I checked incident metering ages ago when they first came out - discovered it just didn't work with DSLRs

I find incidence and spot readings are a good starting place and then bracket or use filters to counteract any problems in the highlights,

You have to use spot metering because the camera only measures reflective light and not incidence.
