The scene's dynamic range looks as though it was higher than 5 stops which is indicated by the histogram.

Exposing more to the right would have retained more shadow detail but you would have lost the highlights.

Adding an extra ND filter would have been difficult because of the shape in the middle of the highlight area. In this particular case, you would have to make the decision as to what is the most dominant feature in the image, expose for that and let the rest fal where they will

A 30 min exposure can't be good for your sensor, I'm guessing it would have got really hot.

Im curious why would you want to take a 30 min exposure of a tree and field?
