Long exposures / write time worries

Just been trying long exposures for longer than Ive tried before- took a8 min exposure no probs, took on for 30 mins and eeeekk!

My camera seems to be busy or 'locked up' still 20 mins later -screen says `'busy please wait`' but I guess the battery will die eventually (in about anotherr 10 mins my guess

Is this normal???

canon 5Dmk2 with bulb and remote release

Simon, have you got the long exposure noise reduction setting turned on as this will double the exposure time?

What was your base exposure (before adding the filter)

What type of filter did you use

Simon, I often do long exp with my Canon 5D II and don't get the same problem, suggest you might check NR setting as Ian says

Re: Long exposures / write time worries

thanks all yes NR was on (AUTO), is now OFF

base exposure was 13th at f11. I gave it 1881 secs (apparently) and the exposure LOOKED OK , a LITTLE low on the his to but not what Id normally consider noisworthy low...

this is approx 100% crop from the shadows Image
