New computer and monitor
My equipment is starting to show its age and I am considering getting a new computer and monitor. Assuming that, within reason, price is not the controlling factor what would you suggest? Apart from being able to access the internet and send and receive emails the main use would be fiddling about with photographs.

Re: New computer and monitor
I don't know what ithings cost, but I suspect a lot. I have a couple of Dell PCs which cost £350 odd each, both with good screens which cost around £180 and £350 respectively.
They, too, just get on with it.

Re: New computer and monitor
Thanks for the suggestions and, from what I have read, it looks like the iMac is favourite.
From a technical point of view how complicated would it be to transfer data, files etc from my existing PC to an iMac and will it be necessary to buy a device for setting the monitor?

Re: New computer and monitor
There seems to be some reasonably priced refurbished machines on the market and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to have a serious look, what do you think?

Re: New computer and monitor
I have had about a dozen macs over the years and love them over PCs any day but have had a lot of troubles with them but I think that was down to the suppliers mishandling them , now I buy online direct from apple. (my friends also had more probs even wit PCs)
I have bought refurbished in the past and regretted it. Fortunately they have a 2 week no questions return policy which I used. My thinking is that refurbs went back because of a problem (obviously) but in the past found that computers weren't always fixed well, so needed to go back again and again. Not been the case in the last 5 yrs but was before that.
So my advice - gets new one. yes they're expensive but Id prefer to pay and get new personally-been very happy with the last two laptops, the previous big desktop and current iMac
max out on memory- you don't think you'll need it but it will make a difference. Apple memory prices are much better than in the past but still compare them with crucial. A hassle though to install yourself on a iMac to save a few quid.
Having said that the refurbs ARE gauarenteed so they'd fix it is =f a problem - but do you want to risk it?
If your running a business at all - by it inn the business as you get even better cust service as a business user
get the extended warranty. Compueters tend to go wrong if they're going to go wrong at all, either in the first 2 weeks or just after the guarantee runs out.
Just a thought- I have An Apple 21" screen in good condition Im not using which you could purchase if so desired and pair with a Mac Mini or laptop
But if you can afford it I'd go for the big iMac new
