A moment in the shade

I wasn't sure whether to put this in Street photography or architecture but thought that since the main focus was intended to be on the person, then street photography it was (even though they are tiny in the frame).

I took this picture about a year ago in Parma, and here is my attempt from then of processing it:

I just had another go and produced this:

Fortunately I prefer the second version (if I didn't then I would have been wasting my time for the past year or soemoticon)

Edit following uploading correctly ....

Thanks Simon

Plus ..I spent less time on it and it (to me) gives a better impression of what I was trying to convey - a place to get some relief from the blazing sun.

Great potential here, the first one looks like an etching but the second has the telephone lines? in,and is a touch contrasty, perhaps a mixture of the two would be worth trying, just my thoughts emoticon

Thanks for commenting Tim - if I remember correctly the telephone lines took me ages to remove so I left them in. (Perhaps just getting lazy?)

Not sure if this is what you are referring to but I like the bright ceiling - suggesting/referring to the bright sunlight outside - but contrasting with the person (highlighted against the dark door) but actually standing in full shade.

Chris I can see what you're trying to do but it just doesn't come across quite how you describe to me as effectively as I think you'd like- also I prefer the first crop

Anychnace to post the original to see what that's like? emoticon

I think Chris that I prefer the second version. Might be interesting to see that original though.

Chris, I had a little look and here is my version, that's if you don't mind me doing so. I think you captured a great image in the first instance.

Thanks Tom.

No problem - I prefer your version. Good tones, much better than I managed.
