Halo after cutting etc

When I often replace a sky (for example) in my image I often get this horrible white halo surrounding parts of the image. How can I stop this from happening and is there a quick way of erasing it?

I think I recall Ian B posting a quick fix on the web but I am darned if I can find it.

Any help mucho apreciado
