Luminance and luminosity

Two words which I frequently meet but which I do not really understand. Could someone point me to where I can get a basic explanation of these terms in relation to B & W images, please?

Re: Luminance and luminosity

Luminance is the light falling onto a subject luminosity is light reflected off it. George dewolf talks about this in depth, type his name into Google for more in depth info.

Re: Luminance and luminosity

Norman,

Download the chapters as there is good info there but be wary of the perceptool.

I seem to remember a discussion on the old forum and from what I can remember, those members that had it, didn't see much advantage to it and certainly not for the price he wanted.

Again, from what I remember, it was just a mid contrast tool. Ian used to sell one which is very good at a fraction of the price. Not sure if it's still available though...

Just a heads up in case you were thinking of buying it.

Re: Luminance and luminosity

Thanks, Steve, useful to be be made aware of possible pit falls. There is a mid-tone contrast facility in at least two of the items available from Ian's web site.

Re: Luminance and luminosity

he'd do a lot better scrapping the plug-in (if he hasn't already) and explaining the method he's TRYING to get us to use with it (although I think it may be available now as an action -not sure)

he has a lot to teach and should concentrate on that rather than trying to flog annoying software emoticon
