Re: SHARPENING & Resizing for IMPAGEPRINT
LOL Ian!
OK that would be great
The question I hope it will address is- we have been taught to sharpen at the size we intend to print
We have also been taught that to get optimum quality the ideal print size is no larger than produced by the file size divided by the pixel per inch count -which for Epson is 360, so should we say that that there must be *some* IQ loss on enlarging above that size??

Re: SHARPENING & Resizing for IMPAGEPRINT
fantastic. God on yer Martin
many thanks
I notice in Nik you have resolution set to 2400x2400
is that your default then -? I ask as I read that there was little point in having that high a resolution abd that 1400x1400 was fine but clearly it isn't as you don't use that I and I certaily bow to your experience
Can you just say a little about why the higher setting is best?
thanks

Re: SHARPENING & Resizing for IMPAGEPRINT
another question
IP 10 includes the ability to sharpen ....but is that any use as normally I never sharpen globally, I always mask ( the sky etc)
SO...is the GLOBAL sharpnening really something you'd use much (at all?)

Re: SHARPENING & Resizing for IMPAGEPRINT
There is a difference between edit sharpening and output sharpen, they are used for two different purposes.
You add sharpening in edit to retrieve detail that's soft and for effect such as selective sharpening for increased depth etc.
You add output sharpen to counteract the loss of sharpening when sending a file to print that includes all areas of the original edit, so its a global effect.
The ability to add output sharpen in IP version 10 is a great addition, this means when you have created a master file and send that file to print, all the re sizing and cropping to fit a desired paper size can now be done in one place with no effect on the original.

Re: SHARPENING & Resizing for IMPAGEPRINT
In answer to the other question regarding Resolution setting which I did not show in the vid that setting in Nik Pro 3 should be set to the printer your are using, the Epson 3800 and I dare guess 3880, print at 1440x1440 and 2880x2880, in the drop down there is only one setting that matches that and that's 1440x1440 the next one up is a near match 2440x2440 so it depends, I would probably use the higher.
Also the paper type setting is very important you must select the right one that matches the paper you are going to print on, its no good selecting Lustre when you are printing on matte paper, matte paper requires more sharpening than Lustre.
I would suggest to leave the view distance to Auto, if you did know the exact distance your images will be viewed at than its OK to do that however to all intent and purpose leave that on Auto.
