Any recommended locations for Lake District shoot?
Hopefully off on photographic trip to the Lake District next week with a colleague. Staying just outside Penrith in the Eden Valley.
Does anybody have some recommended locations away from the madding crowd?
I'm looking for black and white images in the main.

The madding crowd will be the same all over. i.e. if there are tourists there's no where they wont be BUT having said that , the season is finishing and it should be relatively quiet. The best pics are to be had from above.
I.e. get walking. The lakedistricy is universally photogenic, but anywhere around the actual lakes and especially above them on the higher ridges is fantastic views

Yes, thanks Chris. I have a book, but knowing some of our members are from north of the Watford Gap thought they might have some personal recommendations away from the usual viewpoints.

Dont know if this will be of any help, but when we went to the lakes, the best trip by far was the boat trip across Ullswater, the whole area is very scenic, weather permitting of course, hope it stays fine.

Re: Any recommended locations for Lake District shoot?
Ullswater is definitelya place to head for, but also anywhere round it. Really you have got to get climbing-well- walking- 'up' it's not a clomb really.
The best views are from up above but yes that boat trip is a must,

Re: Any recommended locations for Lake District shoot?
If your go to Glenridding that's on the shore of Ullswater, catch the ferry to Howton, that's basically across the lake and into Martindale, then walk back following the shoreline, no climbing just stunning views of the hills especially when the Sun is out looking into the Lakes, the walk is an easy 7 mile, Martindale is also a quite and unspoiled Dale that is a must to go to.
I would not miss going to Keswick and travelling into Barrowdale, the scenery is Breathtaking.
I have always found that is you buy books with walks you will always come across scenes to take, does not mean you have to walk 3000ft up its just as beautiful on the lower fells and short walks.
As Simon said you really do have to do a little walking to get away from the hoards and is one way of ensuring you get some pictures.

Re: Any recommended locations for Lake District shoot?
walk exactly as Maertin says . WE always used to stay in martindale and actually after you have done that walk you will easily see that there are others that take more or less the same route but just slightly higher ifp and in fact if you check out angle tarn, that is a relatively easy walk and gives great views too and then toy can detour back down to glenridding again for some grub etc
