Arch
OK I thought I should post an image... but it's been hard trying to pick one. So I thought I'd try in this sub-forum first (not that I'm actually new to black and white photography, having shot exclusively with it for my first few years in the 60s, but then giving up until very recently).
This was shot for the POTY15 competition on Talk Photography, for the theme "curve", IIRC. Leitz Minolta CL with the Minolta M-Rokkor 40mm f/2 lens and TriX.
(Realise I haven't look at advice on inserting images, and can't find it from here, so I'll just try what's worked elsewhere...)

Re: Arch
I think that because we have a brick row on top of the arch that it tends to make the whole image look to be falling to the right yet the foliage seems straight which to some extent spoils the geometry of it, you could straighten the the brick row at the top but then you have a problem with the bottom, it could be done using Photoshop Warp tool but maybe left as per shoot being film capture.
Tonal it looks overly bright with the mid tones stuck on zone 5ish, I would add a slight variation to the brick work in tone by darkening areas, also the bright front foliage could do with the highlights bringing down a touch.
This is only my opinion,. at the end of the day its what you want from a picture not me
Example
--- "After that shutter closes it’s all over. The physical light captured on film is all that is left, a history of light preserved in chemical form, and I have to move on to the next one."

Re: Arch
Thanks. The slope on the top is real; it's an arch under a ramp, and I liked the confusion and the contrast of the two diagonals, the top bricks and the shadows. I think you're right on the toning, though. I had already brought it down from the version I entered; I was obviously having a bad day at the PP, going all high contrast!

Re: Arch
Yes the Arch is best left as is , it was like that so straigtening would be cheating and remember "film never lies"

I think this is an ethical/moral issue that everybody needs to work out for themselves.
As I have mentioned before, I tend to the school of 'anything goes' if it gives the result you want

Re: Arch
The trouble is, if I straightened the top line, then the bricks in the wall would be going up hill, including the ventilator! I think that would look odder.

Re: Arch
I have no problem with the perceived slope/straightness issue, it was correct in the oroginal post. As well as being a bit bright, it is dimensionally a bit flat, I might try a subtle vignette.
