Fishing
Young fishermen under tuition by a senior member of our local angling club.
Have I done enough to extract the subjects from rather cluttered surroundings - or could it be better?

Re: Fishing
I think that this is very good Keith, and yes, I find that the three figures stand out very well.

Re: Fishing
I agree that the three figures stand out well but - for me - the darkening on the LHS is a bit heavy and itself draws attention from them.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.
This is a surprise Chris, after uploading I was wondering if the RHS might be a bit on the dark side! It's fascinating how we each view things differently.

Yes indeed
I think - for me - the LHS looks artificial whereas the RHS doesn't - it could be a natural shadow.

Re: Fishing
The centre of interest for me is the two boys, the instructor is superfluous. In a way this is accented by the sloping fishing rod which cuts across the image forming a natural separation.

Re: Fishing
On the superfluity of the adult .... For me this is a good example of where the title is important.
So .... for me, if the title were - say - 'Under tuition' then the adult would be an obvious essential part of the image.
(And yes ... I know I keep going on about titles but I believe they can add an enormous amount in helping the viewer to 'get' your intent /vision)

I'm afraid that I am at odds with you on this Chris as I dislike 'explanatory' titles, in fact I dislike image titles in general, but it seems I am in a minority. My philosophy is simple: If a picture causes me to stop and look for a while then it is a good picture, if it causes me to think about it then it is a very good picture, if it brings about an emotion then it is a brilliant picture and in all cases a title is unnecessary - and I have similar reservations about the technicalities of image production. I once heard a beautiful description which I would like to share with you if I may:
'Sometimes we get so obsessed about the mosquitoes and alligators we forget that the original intention was to drain the bl**dy swamp!"

Re: Fishing
Yes, I suppose that as usual a lot depends on what it is the photographer etc is trying to do.
