Full Lightroom Workflow
I use Lightroom to catalog my files, do my printing and also as a RAW converter but nothing else.
Im curious as to how those that solely use Lightroom as their only workflow manage their RAW files.
Do you simply edit the RAW File or do you make a virtual copy of it first ?

Re: Full Lightroom Workflow
Ian, apart from the cataloguing facility what advantages, if any, does Lightroom have over Camera Raw as a Raw converter? I am asking because some kind person has offered to get me a copy of Lightroom if I want it.

Norman
The RAW conversion engine in Lightroom is the same as the one used in Camera RAW so no advantage there.
Lightroom is the best pieces of software for cataloging files and organising them. It is fast and works extremely well.
There are other modules like Book Making, Slide shows etc if this is something you want to explore.
The printing module is excellent, the ability to soft-proofing both screen and printer is easy to use and this is one module I do use for 99% of my printing.

Re: Full Lightroom Workflow
Thank you Ian, for your reply. At least, as far as I am concerned with a relatively small volume of images to store, I would have nothing to gain over Camera Raw and Bridge.

as LR is totally non destructive I never make copies of the raw file but usually use virtual copies and often just manage with the 'snapshots"
also of course if you edit-IN amdthen save while in Ps it saves a TIFF copy to LR anyway
I now do as much as possible in LR before taking to Ps as possible. and so I will have at least used the basic adjustments before Ps and sometimes the adjustment tools like the gradient and isf a crop is obvious I'll use that too as I much prefer the crop in LR to Ps crop
Is there a way in Ps to open an already open file in Ps into ACR to adjust cropping?

Not sure why you would want to crop an image in ACR whilst in Photoshop. Why not press the C key and crop in Photoshop ?

Re: Full Lightroom Workflow
er..for the reasons stated - its is non destructive.
it is not umcommon for me to realise I have either forgotten something or made a mistake and want to step backward whilst not losing other edits. crop in Ps wouldnt allow that

Have you tried the following:
Make all adjustments in Lightroom and then choose Edit In and choose Open as Smart Object in Photoshop.
Then in Photoshop double click the thumbnail which will take you back into Camera Raw
